Welcome to Gen Valentine’s - the gen DCTV fanworks event!

Gen Valentine’s is a 3 day event for gen fanworks, set near Valentine Day's as an alternative/complementary event to the romantic themed events that often pop up around this time - by focusing on non-romantic relationships and characters. The event runs for 3 days, but there's no requirement to write for all the days. We want you to have fun, so contribute as much as you like/are able to.

What can you make/How can you contribute?

Any format of fanwork is acceptable for the event - fanfic, fanvids, fanart and so many more. However you want to be creative is good, so long as the fanwork:

  • is gen (definition below)
  • is your own creation
  • you create it for one of the prompts for the event.

Any combination of prompts is good. If you want to combine prompts from the same or different days, feel free. Fanworks including any DCTV character are good, no matter how big or small. Same goes for content: drabbles are just as valid as longfic. Make what you feel inspired to make!

What is gen?

There's a few different definitions of gen floating around. For the purposes of this event we're defining it as works centered around non-romantic, non-sexual relationships, or even no relationships at all.

Examples of gen categories:
  • Character focused
  • Team focused
  • Familial relationships
  • Friendship focused

Romantic and sexual relationships can be included in fanworks for the event, provided that they are only in the background - the main focus and majority of the content should be non-romantic and non-sexual.

Is NSFW content acceptable?

Given the nature of the event, sexual content is unlikely to be relevant (see above). NSFW content for issues like violence and dark themes is acceptable, but it needs warning/tagging appropriately and to be posted under a cut (if posting on dreamwidth or tumblr).

What shows are included as part of DCTV, for this event?
  • The Flash
  • Arrow
  • Supergirl
  • Legends of Tomorrow
  • Vixen
  • Constantine
  • Black Lightning
  • Gotham
  • The Ray
I don't create content - what can I do?

For non-content creators, you can reblog, comment, bookmark etc - helping works to get seen is a great way to participate. So is support in the form of beta reading, cheerleading etc. If you'd like to offer help in this way, contact us and we can help match you with someone who needs a beta reader or cheerleader.

Posting content

You can submit your works directly to this community blog - posting will open here for the event weekend (posting guidelines to follow).

If you’re posting on AO3, we'd love for you to add them to our AO3 collection here.

The event's official hastag is #DCTVGenValentines2019 .

You don't have to post on the same day as the prompt - if you're a little late on it, that’s fine, we'll still reblog.

If you've got any questions, just send us a message or email us at dctvgen@gmail.com .

Happy gen creating!
